Career Change Dogs
Our career change dogs are highly trained, intelligent dogs that have been released from our program for minor behavioral or temperamental reasons that make them unsuitable for service work. These well-behaved dogs are available for adoption, offering an opportunity to adopt a well-trained family companion.
Dog Availability
We appreciate your interest in adopting a JLAD dog!
We are excited about the possibility of helping you find your perfect companion. As dogs become available, we will post them on this page. If dogs are not currently available, we encourage you to submit an application so that we can begin the process of finding a suitable companion for you and your family.

GUNNER
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Weight: 65 lbs
Gunner is a 5 year-old who was career-changed a few years ago and is now looking for a new home. He has been living his best life in the country and would thrive with an active family that has space for him to roam and explore.
Gunner is a devoted companion who loves nothing more than snuggling with his people and playing a good game of fetch. He’s also happy to alert you when squirrels are nearby! Gunner would do best with a confident handler who can provide clear guidance and structure.
He can do well with other dogs if he’s able to take the lead and has previously lived successfully with both children and cats. With the right family, Gunner will make a loyal, fun-loving partner for many adventures.

CAPTAIN
Breed: Labrador Retriever/Bernese Mountain
Weight: 63 lbs
Captain is a striking 20-month-old with brains, energy, and enthusiasm to spare. He’s incredibly intelligent and eager to work — the kind of dog
who thrives when he has a job, activity, or adventure to focus on.
Captain would do best as the only dog in the home so he can soak up all the attention and guidance from his person. He’s not a couch potato and is looking for an active, engaged owner who will enjoy training, outdoor
activities, and continuing to channel his energy in positive ways.

FRECKLES
Breed: Bernese Mountain/Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever
Weight: 72 lbs
Freckles is a sweet, sensitive, and low-energy dog with a heart made for a slower-paced home. At 12 months old, he’s a lovely mix of ½ Bernese Mountain Dog, ¼ Labrador Retriever, and ¼ Golden Retriever — a combination that shows in his gentle, affectionate nature and his soulful, expressive eyes.
Freckles takes a little time to warm up to new environments and new people, so patience during his adjustment period will go a long way. Once he settles in, though, he blossoms — he loves easygoing walks, lazy afternoons curled up nearby, and quiet companionship. He’s not a dog who needs constant activity; he’s happiest with a calm routine and a family who understands his gentle, sensitive spirit.
Freckles does have special medical needs, and his ideal home will be prepared to support him with this.
The good news is that Freckles gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and kids, making him a flexible fit for many kinds of households. If you’re looking for a low-key, loving companion who will reward your patience with unwavering loyalty, Freckles might be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.

CASEY
Breed: Labrador Retriever/Bernese Mountain
Weight: 63 lbs
Casey is a sweet, affectionate 20-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Labrador Retriever mix who is as smart as she is loving. She has excellent house and car manners and enjoys being part of her
family’s daily life.
Casey gets along well with most other dogs and bonds deeply with her people. She can be vocal in new situations or when she sees unfamiliar people or dogs, so she’ll benefit from continued confidence-building and training support.
With the right guidance, she will make a devoted and wonderful companion.
