Our Mission
Providing skilled, devoted companions to support and assist veterans, first responders, and others with disabilities, creating cohesive teams focused on building a life of greater freedom and independence.
Giving Purpose & Freedom
Our service dogs are purpose-bred for temperament and health. Completing service dog training typically requires between eighteen months and two years, during which time the dogs are taught to respond to over 90 distinct cues. We have a large community of passionate people who are committed to our mission and changing lives. We are extremely proud to partner with two of Oregon’s Correctional Institutions providing a beneficial program for the adults in custody (AIC).
Triple Duty Model
JLAD service dogs perform triple duty by serving multiple roles that extend beyond their placement with recipients.
- Giving adults in custody (AIC) a purpose to live more positive and productive lives by offering meaningful skills, responsibility and rehabilitation opportunities, while contributing to the community as dedicated JLAD trainers.
- Giving community members joy as volunteer socializers, incorporating our service dogs into their daily lives to help build public awareness, promote disability inclusion and prepare the dogs for real-world experiences.
- Giving persons living with disabilities independence through companionship, practical assistance, support, and hope.
